Adoption Disruption/Dissolution
A sad reality

Adoptive parent education and support is vital!

If you are in the process of adopting, make sure you understand and have the resources for any possible
WORST CASE SCENARIO that could possibly, although not probably, occur.

.

Be prepared, as well as being optimistic.

This is another human being involved here. Chances are that everything in your life hasn't been predictable, you learn to be prepared to deal with anything that comes up as you progress through your life (healthwise, emotionally, etc.) There are no guarantees in life, even with children you give birth to, why would you expect anything different from an adopted child. This person has already been through a tramatic event, whether or not he/she remembers it, and now he/she is coming into your life through adoption. He/she is going to have some stuff to work through eventually, even if he/she is adopted as an infant.

Make sure you know how to help rather than being part of the problem.

Chances are if you are prepared for the worst, you will be pleasantly surprised at the reality of being a parent.

There are tons of post-adoption resources out there for your child and for you.
There are several types of Post-Adoptive Resources out there: Counseling, Respite Care, Therapies, Early Intervention Programs, Parent Support Groups. So just find out about the different types and which are close to you.

To make your list, start with:
